Jules Bianchi: Injured Formula 1 driver 'out of coma'
Formula 1 driver Jules Bianchi is no longer in an artificial coma and is breathing unaided, his parents have said in a statement.
The Frenchman has been flown from hospital in Yokkaichi to intensive care in Nice, where he arrived earlier.
However his condition is still "critical" and he remains unconscious.
"Almost seven weeks after Jules' accident at Suzuka Circuit, and following a challenging period of neurological intensive care, we are able to announce Jules has made an important step," his parents Philippe and Christine Bianchi said.
"His treatment now enters a new phase concerned with the improvement of his brain function.
"Although the situation continues to be serious, and may remain so, it was decided that Jules was sufficiently stable to be repatriated to his native France."
They said they were "relieved" to confirm their son had been transferred to Le Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Nice, "where he arrived just a short time ago".
Formula 1's drivers paid
tribute to Jules Bianchi before the Russian Grand Prix a week after the
crash
The Marussia team ran with one car the following week at the Russian Grand Prix in Sochi, where Lewis Hamilton dedicated his win to Bianchi.
His parents praised the "outstanding care" Bianchi received following the accident from doctors at the Mie General Medical Centre in Yokkaichi, adding they owed "an enormous debt of gratitude".
"We are thankful the next phase of Jules' treatment can continue close to home, where he can be surrounded and supported by his wider family and friends," they said.
Since the crash, Formula 1's governing body the FIA has begun working on a plan for a 'virtual safety car' to force drivers to slow for warning flags in an accident zone.
Drivers tested such a car following first practice for the US Grand Prix on 31 October, however the system cannot be implemented immediately because of the complexity of the cars.

| Her face |
Solange Knowles looked great during her wedding, but after the reception she broke out in hives ... and by process of elimination, she's either allergic to shrimp, or Jay Z.
It doesn't seem to be a case of nerves ... Beyonce's sister's face appeared smooth and radiant in the wedding photos ... but after the reception -- when she got in a car with Jigga -- all hell broke loose on her face.
According to our sources, Solange suffered some kind of food allergy, though she isn't sure what it was from. We're told the hives were gone in a matter of minutes.
Solange got hitched in New Orleans Sunday -- she married music video director Alan Ferguson.
Rough.

NBA Star Invites Disabled Man to Game After 'Mocking' Video Goes Viral
The star of a viral video that featured a disabled man being mocked on the street by dozens of people was contacted by an NBA star over the weekend and given the VIP treatment ... TMZ Sports has learned.
We've learned Toronto Raptors star Greivis Vasquez saw the video posted by Andre Arruda -- a Toronto comic who suffers from Morquio syndrome ... often associated with Dwarfism.
In his video, Arruda shows how he's taunted, mocked and stared at on a regular basis because of his physical appearance ... and his story is starting to blow up in the Canadian media.
Enter Vasquez ... who was so moved by the story, he reached out to Arruda's camp over the weekend and invited him to the Raptors game on Saturday night.
Not only did he hook Arruda up with courtside tickets, he got him pregame and postgame passes and took photos with him on the court.
We spoke to Vasquez's rep, who tells us the NBA star simply "wanted to put a smile on Arruda's face."
Mission accomplished.
TV anchor's fashion sense gets attention, finally
SYDNEY (AP) — The male co-host of an Australian TV program is finally getting some attention for his fashion sense. And that's his point.
Karl Stefanovic wore the same blue suit every day for a year on Channel Nine's "Today" program. And no one noticed until he went public with his hidden-in-plain-sight experiment.
He told Australia's Fairfax Media that while no one asked about his suit, people regularly commented about and criticized the outfits worn by co-host Lisa Wilkinson.
Stefanovic says, "I'm judged on my interviews, my appalling sense of humor - on how I do my job, basically. Whereas women are quite often judged on what they're wearing or how their hair is."
The Age newspaper says he's still wearing the same blue suit, and only Wilkinson and another "Today" colleague knew about his experiment.
"They often remark that it's getting a bit stinky," he said in the paper's weekend edition. "I'm hoping to get it into the dry cleaners at the end of the year."
Man pushed to his death under New York subway
A 61-year-old man was killed Sunday in New York when he was pushed onto subway tracks by an unknown assailant, said police, who released a video of the suspect.
The incident took place in the Bronx, where the victim, identified as Wai Kuen Kwok, was waiting for the D train, at the 167th street stop, with his wife. The couple were headed to Chinatown, in lower Manhattan.
The suspect pushed the man from the platform just as a train arrived in the station, shortly before 9:00 am (1400 GMT), as his horrified wife watched helplessly.
The victim and his attacker did not appear to know each other and had not argued, witnesses said.
Police released a video of the suspected killer, who left the scene by bus. On the video, a man wearing a black jacket over a dark t-shirt gets off the bus, goes into a store, and emerges to smoke a cigarette as he ambles away.
A reward of $2,000 was offered for any information that could help the investigation.
Every year, dozens of people are killed by the subway in New York though accident or suicide.
However, this is first known incident of a person being pushed to his or her death on the tracks since December 2012, when two were killed in separate attacks.
On December 28, a woman pushed an Indian immigrant to his death in Queens.
Weeks earlier on December 3, a man was pushed from a stop in Manhattan during a fight with a deranged man.
A New York Post front page picture of the man on the tracks a split-second before he was killed by the oncoming train provoked public fury as to why no one helped him -- and why the tabloid newspaper published the photo.

Akon Esu- Nte,the Head of Capital Accounts Unit of the Nigerian Prison Service before a Federal Capital Territory High Court (21), Apo, on charges bordering on stealing and money laundering.

The suspect, who is a grade level 14 officer, was seconded to the Nigerian Prison Service from the Federal Ministry of Finance.
US White House Security Failed, Intruder In The White House. Secret Service officer chatted on cell phone as intruder scaled White House fence
Secret Service officers bungled the response to a White House intruder by committing a series of what one lawmaker is calling a “comedy of errors,” including one officer who was on his cell phone when the man jumped the fence and multiple officers who assumed bushes would stop him.
The details were revealed in an executive summary of a DHS report, first reported by The New York Times, on the Sept. 19 incident. Accused intruder Omar Gonzales was able to scale the White House fence, sprint untouched across the lawn and make it all the way into the East Room before he was apprehended.
The report notes that Gonzales was already on authorities’ radar in July after he was stopped in his car in Virginia with an illegal sawed-off shotgun and a map of Washington tucked inside a Bible with a circle around the White House, other monuments and campgrounds. Then, on Aug. 25, Gonzalez was stopped and questioned again while he was walking along the south fence of the White House. He had a hatchet, but no firearms. His car was searched, but he was not arrested.
The report revealed that about an hour before the incident, three Secret Service officers saw Gonzales outside the White House and recognized him from the incident with the hatchet. However, they did not observe “unusual behavior” and so did nothing.
After the intruder jumped the fence, the message that the White House had been breached did not reach officers stationed at the White House. Some other officers on duty at the Northwest Gate on Pennsylvania Avenue did not see the intruder because a construction project blocked their view.
The report said that two officers did learn of the breach, and ran toward the intruder with guns drawn. However, they did not think the intruder was armed and determined lethal force wasn’t appropriate. Gonzales was later accused of having a knife.
The officers then followed the intruder into bushes outside the White House, but lost sight of him. According to the report, this “surprised” the officers who “believed the bushes too thick to be passable.”
The report said in addition, a canine officer was stationed in a van on the White House driveway. But when the intruder hopped the fence, he was chatting on his personal cell phone on speaker, and had taken his earpiece out of his ear. The canine officer was also not alerted to the incident prior to spotting the intruder.
When the officer spotted the intruder running, he commanded his dog to apprehend him. However the report said the dog may have not seen the intruder. The canine officer also assumed that the intruder would be stopped by the bushes.
“The Canine Officer mistakenly thought that the bushes would serve as a natural barrier and was surprised that Gonzales was able to enter and pass through them,” the report said.
Once the intruder got inside, he was able to overpower a female officer, who grabbed her flashlight instead of her baton when attempting to subdue him. He was eventually tackled and arrested.
The report cites many reasons as to why the Secret Service failed in its response, including inadequate training, poor staffing decisions and outdated or inefficient communication technology.
The report drew outrage from lawmakers on both sides. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte calling the incident a “comedy of errors” and said it's clear change is needed at the Secret Service.
“This report makes clear that everything that could have gone wrong that evening did,” Goodlatte, R-Va., said in a statement. “Inadequate training, poor communication, and lax physical security at the White House led to this breach.”
Democratic Rep. Bennie G. Thompson said it is crucial that DHS and Secret Service leadership get the Secret Service on track.
“While some of these problems can be attributed to a lack of resources, others are systemic and indicative of Secret Service culture,” Thompson, D-Miss., said. “Some of these problems have begun to be addressed, however it is imperative that DHS follows through on these findings and institutes real reforms.”
The Secret Service told Fox News that the executive summary is one of many ongoing reviews of the incident, and that the Secret Service is working to address the inadequacies highlighted in the report.
“The entire Secret Service workforce is dedicated to ensuring that we provide the highest level of protection to the people and facilities we protect,” the Secret Service press office said in a statement.
The Secret Service has vowed to make changes after the intruder incident and other embarrassing disclosures of lapses in presidential security that led Secret Service Director Julia Pierson to resign last month.
Hunters kill over 75 Boko Haram men, recapture Maiha town in Adamawa
According to reports, about 75 Boko Haram men were killed this week by local hunters in Maiha town, which is about 25km from Mubi town in Adamawa State.
The hunters also recaptured their town which was captured by the insurgents this past Monday. The local hunters, armed with rifles, machetes, bows & arrows, ambushed the insurgents as they came to fight with the Nigerian military in their town and killed as many of them as they could.
Following the attack, many residents of Maiha fled to Yola over fears of reprisal attacks from Boko Haram, who are known to re-group and take revenge when their members are slaughtered.
But the hunters and other vigilante groups say they are no longer running, that they have decided to stay and fight to keep their land and family safe. Thousands of youths have since signed up to confront Boko Haram insurgents in the state.
Graphic pic: Trader kills man for "under-pricing" his goods
A trader at Alaba International Market Ojo, Lawrence Ikonne has been arrested for allegedly killing a buyer, Isa Yaya over the price of his secondhand air conditioner.
According to reports, the incident happened at Ikonne’s house at Afromedia Estate, Okokomaiko, Lagos where Ikonne had invited Yaya to. When they got to the house, the two of them went inside a room to bring out the air conditioner, and then they started haggling over the price. Yaya allegedly insisted on buying the air conditioner below N5, 000- a price which did not go down well with Ikonne. It resulted into a fight and Ikonne allegedly hit Yaya with a plank resulting in his death...
During interrogation, the suspect said:
“I had not met the young man before. I met him that morning at the Alaba market, and asked him to buy one of my appliances: an air conditioner. He actually looked like a cart pusher. When we got home, we both went in to remove the product, and we brought it outside for negotiation. As we continued, he said he would pay less than N5, 000. I replied that he should assist me to return it to where we took it from, but he refused. In the process, we started fighting. He even asked me to pay him for helping me bring it out. I was mad, and I hit his belly with a plank. When I realised he had fainted, I tied him with a rope and dragged him into a corner. I also fled the house.”It was one of Ikonne’s co-tenants who noticed Yaya’s tied up corpse, raised an alarm, and reported the case to the Okokomaiko police station.
